Appointed head of Firsov, Alexander Andreyevich. In 1976, in the city hospital №4 open neuro-traumatic Department with 40 beds providing round the clock urgent neurosurgical care. Head of Department appointed Demin Gennady Viktorovich. Since March 1976 in the Department of neurosurgery works Kuzmin Mikhail Pavlovich. In January 1979, the United 2 neurosurgery Department and on the basis of the Republican clinical hospital is organized in a single neurosurgical Department of 60 beds.Head of Department appointed Kuzmin M. The Department annually more than 450 surgical interventions at different levels of complexity, of which about 50 are interventions related to the category of high-tech medical care.

• microsurgical removal of brain tumors (glial tumors of the cerebral hemispheres, intracranial tumors of the cerebral hemispheres, SCHYA and SCA, tumors of the cerebellum) using neuronavigation;
• microsurgicale removal of tumors of the spinal cord and membranes;
• cranioplasty about a giant and complex bone defects of the skull (with titanium plates);
• the imposition of microsurgical suture of peripheral nerves at their injury;
• decompressive-stabilizing (if necessary, reduction) operations on the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine in the treatment of injuries, degenerative and oncological diseases;
• the use of different types of submerged implant (rear, side and front types of spondylosyndesis) using the image intensifier, navigation with injuries of spine;
• of microsurgical and advanced operative benefits for degenerative diseases of the spine, including using different types of submerged implant (compression forms of degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis);

• laser vaporization of an intervertebral disk.

The office provides year-round emergency, urgent and routine medical care. Annually in the office receiving treatment for more than 1,200 patients from the Republic of Mordovia and the Russian Federation.
