What is the GHA?
Hysterosalpingography (HSG) is a method of studying the state of the uterus and checking the patency of the fallopian tubes to detect a number of diseases and problems in the body:
- tubal obstruction of various etiologies;
- pathology of the uterus – defects, deformation, polyps, endometritis, etc.;
- adhesions;
- cysts;
- tumors, including malignant.
There are two types of GHA:
- Ultrasonic GHA (Echogs, EGSS, hysterosalpingoscopy) is carried out using ultrasound, is considered to be more harmless, but less informative.
- X-ray hysterosalpingography for the testimony and conduct is similar to ULTRASOUND diagnostics. Since the effects of x-ray radiation on the body carries with it certain risks, the study is more harmful, but significantly more accurate.
It is important!
In fact, hysterosalpingography is not only diagnostic, but also, in some cases, treatment of infertility.
Indications and contraindications
The basis for carrying out of hysterosalpingography is the direction of a physician, without this radiographic examination either public or private diagnostic centers is not carried out. The most common reason for the HSG is diagnosis of causes of infertility when the woman in the course of a year (if under 35) or six months (over 35) of regular attempts to conceive can not get pregnant.
In addition, the reason for carrying out hysterosalpingography may be suspected of a number of pathologies and malformations of the uterus: a violation anatomical structure, fibroids, polyps, adhesions, tuberculosis, etc.
There are a number of factors under which the GHA is not carried out:
- pregnancy. Despite the fact that the harm from the procedure to the woman's body is minimal, the radiation affects the fetus. Doctors strictly forbid to hold GHA upon the slightest suspicion of pregnancy. A month before the procedure is recommended to limit sexual contact or use protection carefully;
- Allergy to contrast agent, and latex (for HSG x-ray). Because during the procedure uses iodine-containing substances, an allergic reaction to them is a serious obstacle to analysis;
- uterine bleeding;
- inflammatory processes in the body, especially in genital region and pelvic organs, exacerbation of chronic diseases;
- already detected abnormalities in the uterus and ovaries – cysts, tumors;
- hyperthyroidism;
- thrombophlebitis;
- infections and bacterial diseases.
Preparing for the HSG the fallopian tubes
So, if the study is received and the selected type of diagnosis, you need some time to prepare for the procedure.
Because hysterosalpingography among the contraindications is inflammation, and bacterial and infectious disease, the patient will need to be tested to exclude such factors. It should be noted that different clinics have differing list of required survey and different expiry dates, so the exact conditions are better to learn after choosing the medical center.
